Peter Fowler

Peter Fowler was elected President the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) last year and is Specialist Pharmacist – Critical Care at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH). Previously, Peter was Statewide Clinical Lead for eMM projects in Tasmania, which involved heading the implementation of a number of projects including introducing electronic prescribing in outpatient clinics across Tasmania; he also managed clinical pharmacy services at LGH and was Director of Pharmacy at the now-Mersey Community Hospital. 

Holding honorary academic positions with the Faculty of Health Science, University of Tasmania, Peter collaborated in establishing a physician-pharmacist lead teaching model for medical students as well as an experiential rural emergency medicine teaching program for pharmacy and medical students. Peter has been a member of the SHPA for over 30 years, served on the Tasmanian Branch Committee for 18 years, was the convener of the 2001 Federal Conference and one of the first Australian Pharmacists to achieve BPS accreditation in Pharmacotherapy.




Kristin Michaels

Kristin Michaels has been Chief Executive of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) since 2015, a time that has seen record membership growth and retention and a revolutionised role as the indispensable professional partner for Australia’s leading community of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

A contemporary Chief Executive with almost 20 years’ experience within healthcare organisations, and through Board Directorships in both the primary and acute sectors, Kristin has modernised SHPA in step with the evolving nature of Australian healthcare, implementing agile operations and guiding the development of new strategic directions to position SHPA for future growth. A Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Kristin also has extensive experience as a professional mentor and executive coach.




Jane Booth

Jane Booth is the Formulary and Business Development Manager at Monash Health in Melbourne. Her professional interests are the rationale use of medicines, pharmacovigilance and the role of social media in healthcare. Together with Dan Guidone, and Kristin Xenos, Jane hosts and produces the Purple Pen Podcast, a fortnightly discussion about clinical pharmacy in Australia and one of the world’s leading hospital pharmacy podcasts. In 2017, Jane was awarded the William Mercer Young Achiever award from the Victorian Branch of SHPA.

Jane has previously worked as a senior Medicines Information pharmacist and as a clinical pharmacist in critical care. She led the team that established the first Australian clinical pharmacy service to an operating suite. Jane enjoys talking to people about legitimately using Twitter at work. Duncan McKenzie

Duncan is the Pharmacy Manager at the Royal Hobart Hospital and, recently, was Acting Deputy Chief Pharmacist for Tasmania. A key leader in Statewide hospital pharmacy in Tasmania, Duncan has been instrumental in the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship and supporting expanding roles of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, while championing peer review and medication safety initiatives. Nationally, Duncan is a leader in antimicrobial stewardship and antimicrobial resistance, regularly as an invited speaker and through serving on related Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Health Care committees.

Duncan has been involved nationally in the development of ClinCAT, won a 2013 PRIME fellowship to attend the ASHP leadership conference and has sat as Branch Chair of the SHPA Tas Branch for over six years and helped bring the first SHPA leadership boot camp to Australia. Duncan is Scientific Program Manager of Medicine Management 2019 (MM2019) the 45th SHPA National Conference, and will be Chair of the Scientific Program Committee for MM2020.
