Thursday 21 May - Ulaanbaatar

The day begins with a morning meeting at the hotel, kicking off the post-conference education component.

This afternoon, explore two of Mongolia’s most iconic cultural landmarks - the Chinggis Khaan Museum and Gandantegchinlen Monastery. Immerse yourself in Mongolia’s rich and complex history at the museum through its extensive exhibits including ancient artifacts, historical documents and interactive multimedia displays that trace the life and legacy of Chinggis Khaan and the rise of the Mongol Empire. The museum’s modern architecture and thoughtfully curated galleries offer a compelling narrative of Mongolia’s past, from prehistoric times to the present day.

The Gandantegchinlen Monastery is a serene and spiritually significant site that serves as a center of Tibetan Buddhism in Mongolia. Walk through its peaceful courtyards and ornate temples and observe monks engaged in daily rituals and admire the towering statue of Avalokiteśvara, a symbol of compassion. The monastery’s vibrant prayer flags, intricate woodwork and resonant chanting ceremonies provide a deeply immersive experience into Mongolia’s spiritual traditions and Buddhist heritage.

Friday 22 May - Ulaanbaatar to Terelj National Park

After checking out of the hotel this morning, embark on a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Terelj National Park. Along the way, we visit the awe-inspiring Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex - a 40-meter-tall monument clad in stainless steel, celebrating Mongolia’s legendary leader. Inside the base, explore exhibits on Mongolian history and ascend to a viewing platform on the horse’s head, where sweeping views of the steppe unfold around you. The monument’s scale, craftsmanship and historical significance make it a powerful tribute to Mongolia’s legendary leader.

Enjoy a local lunch en route to our accommodation at Juulchin Terelj Ger Camp, nestled amidst the park’s wild and tranquil beauty. The unique rock formations, shaped over time by wind and weather, resemble nature’s sculptures and set the scene for our adventure. The camp combines traditional charm with comfort, featuring traditional Mongolian gers that blend perfectly with the surrounding hills. Settle in to your modern, yet traditional ger, with it's own en-suite bathroom.  The gers are very comfortable but it should be noted that they only have single beds in them.

Saturday 23 May - Terelj National Park

The morning begins with a conference session at the hotel.

Today you will experience the joy of an exclusive mini Naadam Festival, featuring archery, horse racing and wrestling - the three pillars of Mongolia’s national celebration.  Marvel at the skilled archers, witness the thrilling horse races and cheer on your favourite wrestler with enthusiasm.

As part of the festival, enjoy a Khorkhog-making demonstration. Khorkhog is a traditional Mongolian dish prepared by cooking meat and vegetables with hot stones outside in the open air.  At first glance, this might look like any other barbecue, the stones mistaken for coals, as they turn a deep black from the emanating heat and caramelised fat drippings from the meat above. There is a tradition of rolling or tossing the hot stones from hand to hand, which is said to improve blood circulation and overall well-being. Give it a try - hot potato style, or in this instance, hot "stone".  Sit down to a special meal that Mongolians love to serve to their families, friends and respected guests.

The day ends with dinner around the camp fire, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the steppe.
