Nagoya

Our first stop is the city of Nagoya which offers a fascinating glimpse into traditional Japanese crafts and history.  We begin with a guided visit to Nagoya Castle where beautifully restored palace rooms reveal the elegance of samurai-era architecture and artistry.  Choose between a visit to Arimatsu or the Toyota Industry and Technology Museum.  Arimatsu is a charming historic district famed for its centuries-old Arimatsu Shibori tie-dyeing craft, where Edo-period streets and traditional shops like Suzusan offer a glimpse into Japan’s artisanal past. A visit to the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology in Nagoya offers a fascinating dive into Japan’s industrial evolution, showcasing Toyota’s transformation from a textile machinery manufacturer to a global automotive leader.

Kanazawa

Kanazawa offers a rich and immersive experience of Japan's cultural and historical heritage. Enjoy a stroll through Shiakawago Village, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses. These unique structures, with their steep thatched roofs, are designed to withstand heavy snowfall. The Wada Family Residence is one of the largest and most well-preserved houses in the village, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of the Edo period.

Visit Kanazawa Castle, originally built in the late 16th century. Although much of the original structure was destroyed over the years, the castle has been meticulously restored. The castle grounds include the impressive Ishikawa-mon Gate, which leads to Kenroku-en Garden, one of Japan's three most beautiful gardens. This spacious garden, dating back to the 1670’s, features stunning landscapes, including ponds, streams, waterfalls, and tea houses.

Finally, visit Nagamachi, Kanazawa’s Samurai District and stroll through cobblestone streets, canals and Edo-era residences. Visit the elegant Nomura-ke Residence, known for its refined woodwork and serene garden. Enjoy time at leisure to see the local shops featuring Kutani ceramics, Kaga-yuzen kimonos and cozy cafés.

Kyoto

Our tour now includes a three night stay in Kyoto.  Begin with a visit to Nishiki Market, where the vibrant stalls and traditional shops showcase Kyoto’s food culture - from fresh seafood and pickles to matcha treats and artisanal crafts. It’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in the city’s flavours and energy.
